Inside Line Promotions – LONGDALE, Okla. (July 28, 2015) – Brandon Hanks is finding a groove during the right time of the year.

Hanks scored his season-best result while recording a pair of top 10s last weekend with the ASCS Red River Region, which earned him a $500 bonus for finishing in second place during the Young Tool Challenge.

“Friday night was as about as solid as it could be other than going to Victory Lane,” he said. “The car was excellent. We were able to do some passing in the heat race. I got lucky on the start and got three positions. That was enough to put us in the redraw.”

Hanks powered the David Smith Racing entry from seventh to fourth place during a heat race, which sent him into the feature redraw at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla. He then pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to line up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We jumped up to third and ran third most of the race,” he said. “We got Jake Martens with about two to go for second. Sam Hafertepe Jr. was the fastest car. I don’t think I had anything for him, but we were definitely excellent.”

Hanks ended with a second-place result, which was his best finish of the season and his fifth podium this year.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Longdale Speedway.

“It took rubber in the heat races,” he said. “I overdrove the first corner and Sam passed me. I’ve never been to a track that takes rubber in the heat races. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I just overdrove it. I wasn’t expecting the speed to be so slow. That put us middle of the field for the feature.”

Hanks finished sixth in a heat race, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“They didn’t do anything to the track all night long,” he said. “It stayed rubber down on the bottom. Pretty much where you started was where you finished. Whenever we got in line that was where you stayed. There wasn’t any passing. Somebody had to really screw up to go by. We had a late caution and Matt Covington was probably like me, sick and tired of riding around, so he tried to make something work on the top. I went by him and he settled in behind me. That’s the only thing that happened during the race.”

Hanks capped the night with a ninth-place result.

He is scheduled to compete this Thursday and Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
