Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 28, 2015) – White Lightning Motorsports recorded its first career 1-2 finish last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in the 305ci class.

Devin Kline claimed the feature victory, which marked his fourth official triumph of the season during eight races, with teammate Jamie Ball posting a second-place result during his first 305 start since 2011.

“We couldn’t have wrote the script any better,” Kline said. “To be able to do that shows how strong our program is. It was a great night.”

Kline kicked off the event by qualifying third quickest. He then advanced from sixth to second place during a heat race before pulling the No. 2 during the feature redraw to earn a starting spot on the outside of the front row for the 12-lap feature.

“We’ve been lucky with the redraw all year,” he said. “We started second and shot out to the lead. The car was perfect. There was a good bottom so we were stuck to that. The only way I’ve been slowing down all year is in lapped traffic and I told myself I wasn’t going to do that. Under a caution I saw Jamie was in second. It was fun being able to race with him. I knew I just had to hit my marks.”

Kline did just that as he held off Ball for the win.

“My car owner started piecing together a 305 earlier this year that he wanted me to run for him,” Ball said. “Things went a little slower than we anticipated so I didn’t get to run it for the first time until Saturday.”

Ball qualified second quickest and finished fifth in a heat race. The feature redraw lined him up on the outside of the third row, but it didn’t take long for him to join his teammate near the front. Ball powered into the runner-up position on Lap 5 and maintained a close pace with Kline until the checkered flag.

“We were both making the same moves through the bottom,” Ball said. “I never really lost, but never really gained. The new motor hadn’t been fueled very well. It had some smaller nozzles and it didn’t take off on a late-race restart. I had the pedal matted to the floor, but it didn’t get going until the flag stand.”

Ball also competed in the 360ci class at the half-mile oval, where he timed in 13th quickest during qualifying before ending second in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I moved up pretty quickly,” he said. “Within the first three laps we were up to ninth. The car was real good. It was one of the better cars we’ve had this year. Starting 12th it makes it hard to get by those guys and pass most of them because the level of competition is just phenomenal. I’m definitely happy with going forward.”

Ball will return to action this Thursday at the Dubuque County Fair Race in Dubuque, Iowa, and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
