Brian Brown – Change of Plans!
Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 will be at Knoxville Raceway for Twin Features night this Saturday night. That’s a change from their intentions of racing at the King’s Royal in Ohio this week. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver is still recovering from an arm injury sustained on July 4 at Knoxville, and the team’s focus is on the Knoxville Nationals that loom in August.
Though your arm was hurting, you got off to a fast start at Park Jefferson last Friday night with the NSL.
We were quick early in the night. We were quick in hot laps and came out third quick. We went from fifth to fourth in the heat, and that was really the highlight of the night.
You ended up tenth in the feature after starting seventh.
Obviously, we weren’t that great in the feature. We just kind of survived it. With my arm the way it was, we were just trying to stay out of trouble. We came away with a top ten finish and we headed down the road.
You spent the rest of the weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway with the World of Outlaws.
We’ve had some success there. We led most of the feature there a couple years ago. Cedar Lake is really close to FVP’s headquarters in Eagan, Minnesota. Anytime we go up there, it’s great to meet all their customers and employees. I think we had around one hundred on Saturday, and about the same on Sunday. The World of Outlaws do a great job with their hospitality, and it’s a good way to show FVP customers our appreciation.
You ended up with a pair of DNF’s.
The results, really all weekend long, weren’t what we wanted. I fought the car a bit, and I fought my arm a bit. It wasn’t the week we hoped for, but the good thing about this team is no one quits. Chad (Morgan), Josh (Hembe) and Neal (Kelly) worked really hard. Even Joel (Quetschenbach) from FVP was there with us. Some weeks are like that.
This is the time of year that you want to build some momentum.
There’s a lot of money and prestige on the line in the next month here. We’d like to get on a roll and have some good runs that spark some more confidence. Hopefully, we’ll get where we need to be come August.
I know you had a change of plans this week.
Our plans were to go to Eldora this weekend for the King’s Royal. The way my arm is and the way we’re running right now, as a team owner, it’s not a good idea to go crisscrossing the country. Our focus is the Knoxville Nationals in August, so we need to be there.
You’ve been fast at Knoxville, but the results haven’t shown it.
I don’t feel like we’ve had the laps we need at Knoxville. I think we’ve only finished three A mains for whatever reason. I think we could use some good laps during Twin Features. I’d like to apologize to our fans out at Eldora who would like to see us there, but the Knoxville Nationals are our priority right now. Two good results this Saturday night will go a long way for our team.

Brown’s Bits
In May of 2013, Brian had a pair of top fives with the Outlaws at Eldora. After finishing fifth in the prelim, he was passed by Daryn Pittman after leading 22 laps of the finale. He would finish second, ahead of Donny Schatz, Jac Haudenschild and Joey Saldana.
