Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 10, 2014) – The biggest thing Trey Starks took from this year’s 54th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals Presented by Casey’s General Stores was how important track time is at Knoxville Raceway.

“Last time we came to the Nationals we came a little early and got some practice laps,” he said. “This track takes laps. That’s one of the main reasons why the local guys are so good.”

Despite not many laps around the half-mile oval entering last weekend’s premier sprint car event, Starks kicked off his preliminary night last Thursday by qualifying 17th quickest. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to advance through his stacked heat race and was relegated to the B Main.

“We started 12th and we weren’t quite there on the setup,” he said. “It was tough to race through because the track was pretty narrow.”

Starks ended with a 17th-place result, which sent him into the non-qualifier event that was held on Saturday morning.

He placed fourth in his heat race on the one-groove track to advance into the main event, which he started 19th.

“It was a pretty tricky track,” he said. “It was slick on the straightaways and hooked up through the corners. We weren’t too great on restarts and got shuffled back on a restart and maybe ran the bottom longer than we should have. We got lapped with about five laps to go and when we moved up the track we ran with the leaders.”

Starks finished 22nd in the main event.

The morning session concluded with the SPEED SPORT World Challenge. It marked the first time Starks competed in the race that featured drivers from across the world.

“It was a really fun race,” he said. “We moved for the first five laps and then passed some guys in the rubber, which you don’t see all that often. We learned a lot.”

After starting 19th he earned a 13th-place result.

Following a break to rework the track prior to Saturday night’s Knoxville Nationals features, Starks wrapped up his weekend by advancing from 12th to ninth in the D Main.

“We were actually really good,” he said. “We had a couple of times when we passed a car and a caution came out. We were really fast, just the track was too narrow. It was our fault we put ourselves there.”

The team is returning to the Northwest this week.
