Baughman Rallies for Best Career Result at Front Row Challenge

Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 5, 2014) – Josh Baughman capped a busy weekend in Iowa by earning his best career result at the Front Row Challenge.

Baughman rallied from a high pill draw early Monday night to post an 11th-place finish during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Southern Iowa Speedway.

“All in all I feel like there were some good cars sitting there watching and we were racing,” he said. “Last year we were watching the race and this year we were racing in it.”

After starting on the final row of his heat race, Baughman advanced from seventh to fifth place. That lined him up on the outside of the front row of a B Main. He led all 12 laps to earn a transfer into the main event, which he started 17th.

“We passed some cars early on and once you got spread out there wasn’t a lot of passing,” he said after picking up a half-dozen positions.

The weekend kicked off last Friday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the 24th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.

Despite going out late to qualify, Baughman timed the Jason Johnson Racing entry in 14th quickest. That lined him up on the outside of the second row of a heat race.

“We got behind the eight ball in our heat race,” he said. “We didn’t lock in so we had to run the B Main.”

Baughman’s sixth-place result in his heat race relegated him to the B Main, which he started eighth.

“Sheldon Haudenschild spun out in turn one on the opening lap,” he said. “We had nowhere to go and got into him and the wall. We changed wings and tried to go from the back to the front, but that’s tough to do.”

Baughman rallied from last to a 14th-place finish in the B Main. That lined him up 14th in a C Main during Saturday’s final day of the $10,000-to-win event.

“The car was great, but the track was real narrow,” he said. “We only had 12 laps to make something happen. Starting that far back it was tough to do. We just ran out of laps.”

Baughman advanced to an eighth-place finish, which was only two positions out of transferring into the B Main.

He will take this weekend off before competing next at a pair of ASCS Gulf South Region events – Aug. 15 at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Aug. 16 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
