Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2014) – After having to sit out last weekend following a pair of wild wrecks, Austen Wheatley is focused on this week’s 54th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals Presented by Casey’s General Stores at Knoxville Raceway.

“I really wish we could have ran in Pevely (with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series),” he said. “I haven’t gotten a lot of A Main laps with the World of Outlaws. I think I’m good in Pevely and I really wanted some more laps at Knoxville (during Sunday’s Capitani Classic).”

The team is down to one car, which they built last week, and one engine. Two fresh engines are expected to arrive on Wednesday, when Wheatley is scheduled for his preliminary night at the Knoxville Nationals.

“You don’t want that type of stuff happening before Nationals,” Wheatley said of the crashes. “You want to be getting top 10s and top fives. I know that the speed is there. Luck just hasn’t gone our way.”

Wheatley is aiming to make his first main event during the Knoxville Nationals, which all starts with one thing.

“Qualifying, qualifying and qualifying,” he said. “You want to qualify good because you never know what can happen racing-wise. Qualifying is just as important as your A Main.”

The $150,000-to-win event, which has drawn more than 100 entries, kicks off on Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
