Bokhoven Makes Big Move to Focus on Passion of Television and Radio
Inside Line Promotions – SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (May 24, 2014) – Tony Bokhoven has made a big adjustment in his life.
After nearly two decades as the weekly announcer at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, Bokhoven has resigned from his post to pursue his passion as a broadcaster in television and radio.
“I want to say thank you to the Marion County Fair Association and to Brian Stickel for the support throughout the years,” he said. “Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani was the guy who gave me my chance at Knoxville, and I owe him a lot for his trust and confidence. I’ve gained a lot of experience there and I’ve met a lot of folks who have put me in a good position to further my career. It’s been fantastic, but I guess as they say, all good things come to an end.
“I also want to thank all the drivers, teams, car owners and sponsors for their support of Knoxville Raceway, and of me as their announcer. I’ve made many great friends here and look forward to the next chapter in my announcing and broadcasting career.”
After 18 years in the booth, Bokhoven said he will return to Knoxville Raceway as a fan for this Saturday’s competition.
“I don’t spectate well,” he said with a chuckle. “That’s going to be the tough part for me. I’ve been there for almost every race for the last 18 years. To go to a sprint car race as a fan is going to be tough.”
Bokhoven is coming off another weekend on television with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series. He was a pit reporter for the CBS Sports Network broadcast of the events last Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., and at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday.
“The Wednesday show at Lincoln was awesome,” he said. “That race is going to look really good on TV.”
Bokhoven also received good news from World Racing Group as he will return as a pit reporter for Super DIRT Week in Syracuse, N.Y., Oct. 8-12 as well as the World Finals in Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 6-8.
Bokhoven’s next television appearance will be with the NBC Sports Network for the TORC: The Off-Road Championship at Bark River International Raceway in Bark River, Mich., June 14-15.
“All of the television opportunities have been great and I’m looking forward to continuing to build this career,” he said.
