Bronson Maeschen Rolls On Marion County Fair Night at Knoxville!

KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, July 13, 2013 – Bronson Maeschen recorded career win number three Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway. The Pleasantville, Iowa driver earned $3,000 for his first win since the 2012 Capitani Classic here. Clint Garner won a thriller by passing Joe Beaver in the last corner to win the 360 feature, while Larry Ball Jr. became the all-time winningest 305 winner at Knoxville with his sixth career tally.

Before a lap could be completed in the 410 main event, Jamie Veal spun across and over the turn one infield berm. On the next try, young Paul Nienhiser hit the wall in turn one and helicoptered to bring out the red. He was unhurt.

Once underway, Dustin Selvage set a torrid pace to lead the event with Don Droud Jr. and Maeschen in tow. With a lap in the books, Dakota Hendrickson came to a stop. Meanwhile, Danny Lasoski, who was running eighth went to the work area. A mud clod had lodged under his throttle.

After the restart, Maeschen worked under Droud for the runner-up spot and began to reel in Selvage. A good battle ensued, with Selvage holding tight on the bottom. In lapped traffic on lap eight, Maeschen shot by for the lead and tagged the lapped car of Garrett Dollansky in the process. The race stayed green the rest of the way.

At the halfway mark, Maeschen led Selvage, Droud, Wayne Johnson and Davey Heskin. That’s the way it would roll the rest of the way. Dusty Zomer was sixth, and Justin Henderson, Ian Madsen, hard-charger Terry McCarl and Tasker Phillips rounded out the top ten.

Henderson set quick time on the night, while Madsen, Tasker Phillips and Mark Dobmeier won the heats. Veal took the B main.

“(Selvage) was getting great starts and I was rolling around there pretty good,” said Maeschen in Victory Lane. “I was getting some momentum up and our car was really nice. There was a lapped car…I think it was Dollansky…I got a little nervous there. I didn’t mean to hit him, I was just out there racing hard. We got through there.”

Joe Beaver shot into the lead in the 18-lap 360 feature before Alan Zoutte spun with a lap in the books. Beaver led Jamie Ball, Nate Van Haaften, Randy Martin and Clint Garner back to green flag racing. On the restart, Garner shot to third, while Jon Agan followed him to fourth (from eighth).

Intense racing for the lead ensued with Beaver on the low side, and Ball on the cushion. The pair battled side by side before Ball took the advantage on lap six. Alan Ambers would spin with seven laps down, bringing another caution. Beaver slid across turn two to take the lead back on the restart before Josh Higday stopped a lap later.

Beaver led Ball, Garner, Agan and Randy Martin back to green flag racing. The lead trio pulled away from the field at that point. Garner worked his way by Ball on lap 15 and set his sights on Beaver in traffic. When Beaver stumbled off the bottom behind a lapped marker, Garner pounced in dramatic fashion in turn four coming for the checkers. It was his 20th career win here. Beaver followed ahed of Ball, Randy Martin and Jonathan Cornell. Agan, Matt Moro, Jarrod Schneiderman, Zach Blurton and hard-charger Ricky Montgomery rounded out the top ten.

Ball set quick time, while Chris Martin, Higday and Cornell won the heat races.

“Something seemed to be happening with the tire at the end, where those guys got a little worse, and I definitely got better,” said Garner in Victory Lane. “The racetrack was awesome again tonight. Knoxville Raceway is the best. I would drive 1000 miles a week to race here if I could afford it. (Beaver) messed up a little on the bottom and didn’t have a nice transition and I was right on him. I thought we had hope. Then we hit some lapped traffic. It’s really fun to race with Jamie and Joe.”

The 12-lap 305 feature lost almost half of its field in turn one when the green flag fell. Sawyer Phillips and Stacey Alexander contacted, collecting five other cars. Stacey Alexander, along with Jake Strayer, Matt Stephenson, Mike Philben, Dylan Ryder and Mitchell Alexander sustained heavy damage and were done.

Steve Breazeale led from the pole with eight cars remaining ahead of Larry Ball Jr. and J Kinder. Chris Walraven moved into the show position on lap three. Ball Jr. worked on Breazeale until taking the lead on lap six.

Tanner Edwards stopped to bring out the yellow flag with five laps to go. Ball Jr. sailed away to the win, ahead of Breazeale, Walraven, Kinder and Phillips. Bob Hildreth and Lee Patterson followed. Kinder set quick time on the night, while Breazeale and Phillips won heat races.

“Steve is a good racer,” said Ball Jr. in Victory Lane. “We’ve both been doing it a long time. I was trying to do everything I could to get him pried off the bottom. He finally changed it up, when I went to the top side there. That helped me out and finally gave me the bottom. We raced Sawyer there pretty hard in the heat and blew the hood clear off. Everyone worked hard all night.”

Tuesday night, July 16, the “Full Blown Rodeo” will be here at Knoxville Raceway. On Thursday, July 18, the Harris Clash for Modifieds will be running. All three sprint car classes will be back in action, Saturday night, July 20 for 3M Night! For more information, visit www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com!
