Mark Dobmeier – Last Lap Victory at Huset’s!

June 6, 2013 - Mark Dobmeier and his Lunstra Motorsports #13 had a great weekend as Mother Nature allowed them to complete two of their three races on their schedule. A last corner pass of Terry McCarl at Huset’s Speedway Sunday night capped off the weekend after charging to a podium finish the night before at the Knoxville Raceway.

A long, caution-filled feature greeted the 15 drivers signed in at Huset’s. After setting his first quick time of the season and finishing third in his heat, Dobmeier patiently kept his cool and collected his 49th career victory at the famed bullring in Brandon, S.D. The final 11 laps went caution-free after a rare fuel stop brought the crews out to the cars. Dobmeier stuck his Sioux Falls Ford Eagle in some moisture on the last lap in turns one and two to pull even with the 7-Time Huset’s Champ McCarl. They screamed down the backstretch side-by-side with “Dynamite” sliding into the lead in turn three to hang on for the popular victory as a car slowed down the frontsretch as they crossed the checkers. Race officials decided to end the race, giving the $2,500 check to the Senske & Son team.

“Man, what a finish. This is why we do what we do every week driving all those miles to race for these great fans,” Dobmeier said after the win. “Terry got by us there early in the race and the cautions kept coming. We finally had a green stretch and my car came in there late as we hung with him. I dove it to the bottom on the last lap and she stuck and we went on to grab the win. What a great win for this team and I can’t thank my guys enough.”

The team came in with a little momentum after earning hard-charger honors the night before in Knoxville coming from 15th to finish 3rd. Another disappointing effort of 18th quick out of the 35 cars signed in resulted in the poor starting position for the ‘A’. A dominant heat race victory picked up the spirits for the Big Trucks by Jimco entry leading into the feature. Dobmeier picked his way up through the field and caught a late race caution to bunch the field up with a couple to go. Dobs would get around a few more cars on the high side to land on the podium to end the night.

“We were really good all night outside of qualifying. We keep struggling to start the night off, but once we get racing with other cars we are really, really fast,” Dobmeier said. “We dug ourselves a hole and will continue to work on it so we can start to hit feature inverts and start up front. Outside of that, the car is working perfectly.

“Overall, it was a great weekend when we did get to race. We won the heat at Grand Forks before getting rained out, we were hard charger at Knoxville, and won at Huset’s. We’re hoping to repeat that and get a few more wins this weekend.”

The regular schedule is being planned for the upcoming weekend with Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Mark’s hometown of Grand Forks, N.D., Saturday night at Knoxville, and finishing the weekend again at Huset’s where he’ll try to grab career win #50 there on Sunday.

2013 STATS: 8 Starts, 3 Wins, 5 Top Fives, 6 Top Tens, 2 Heat Wins, 1 Fast Time, Average Finish of 5.250, 56 Cars Passed in A Main Action, and Plus/Minus of +56 Positions
