KYLE LARSON APPEARS TO CLINCH THE JESSE HOCKETT “MR. SPRINT CAR” TITLE AND THE COX DESIGN IOWA SPEED WEEK POINT CHAMPIONSHIP

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (August 9, 2012) - Following his win in Wednesday night’s Goodyear Knoxville Nationals preliminary main at the Knoxville Raceway, Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, California, has apparently clinched the Cox Design Iowa Speed Week point championship, which awards $2,500 and the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” title. According to Tom Schmeh, who maintains the points at the National Sprint Car Museum, “I don’t think anyone can mathematically beat Kyle’s current 287 point total, even if they win Thursday’s preliminary main, the Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge on Friday AND the 52nd Goodyear Knoxville Nationals on Saturday. What Kyle Larson has already accomplished here this week is unprecedented in the history of the ten-night Iowa Speed Week between the Knoxville and Oskaloosa tracks.”

Night number eight of ten straight nights of sprint car racing is Thursday night back at Knoxville Raceway with the second preliminary night of the Knoxville Nationals for the winged ‘410’ sprint cars.

The unofficial top fifteen in the 2012 Cox Design Iowa Speed Week points after ten mains in seven nights is as follows: 1., Kyle Larson, 287 points; 2., Brady Bacon, 211 points; 3., Brian Brown, 185 points; 4., Tim Kaeding, 183 points; 5., Shane Stewart, 179 points; 6., Brooke Tatnell, 165 points; 7., Brad Sweet, 162 points; 8., Paul McMahan, 156 points; 9., Tim Shaffer, 141 points; 10., Danny Lasoski, 136 points; 11., Jason Johnson, 124 points; 12., Jeff Swindell, 123 points; 13., Kaley Gharst, 121 points; 14., Rager Phillips, 119 points; 15., Kevin Swindell, 117 points.

The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speedweek includes ten straight nights of sprint car racing between Knoxville Raceway and the Southern Iowa Speedway. The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007, ‘08) of Oklahoma, Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa, and Sammy Swindell (2010, ‘11) of Tennessee.
