Jamie Ball- No Where to Go

Jamie Ball- No Where to Go
(White Lightning Motorsports) –

This week the Delta Oil #5J would race on Sunday August 8, 2010 at the Knoxville Raceway in the 305 class which was supporting the USAC 410’s. I would draw a number three and would start on the pole of heat number three. The third heat race would go green the whole way and I was start and finish in first place. When finishing first in the heat race it can somewhat put a driver behind the eight ball for the feature. Knoxville Raceway does an inversion pill of 6, 8, 10 or 12. I would finish first in the third heat and it would put me third overall before the invert. The invert would be drawn and it would be a 10 pill. This would line me up in the 8th starting position for the 305 A-Main. The race would start and I would immediately jump into the fourth position coming off turn two. I wanted to run the bottom, which is what we were geared to do. But #6 Mitch Alexander who was running third was running the bottom so I had no choice but to run the top. We were both fast and closing on the second place car of Travis Cram. Alexander would have a few looks at Cram but wasn’t successful. On lap 7 Alexander and Cram would make contact in turns three and four. This would cause Alexander to spin out. I was running the bottom and when he spun I thought he would spin out and come to rest at the bottom of the track, so I turn up towards the cushion to try and avoid contact with Alexander. The second I turned up and was committed to the cushion Alexander’s car would come shooting up the track. This left me with nowhere to go but directly into the left rear of Alexander. It was like hitting a brick wall. The car did not flip but it hit so hard it tipped the car over on its side very hard. This mishap would end the night for the Delta Oil #5J. The car was not totally destroyed but it did break wheels, radius rods, wing, and a few bars on our Eagle Chassis. Overall for a crash at Knoxville it turned out fairly well. We will get the car fixed and come back on September 4, 2010 looking for another great finish.

The next time that White Lightning Motorsports plans to race is on Saturday August 28, 2010 at the Knoxville Raceway in the 360 sprint car class. There are only two more weekly point races left at the Knoxville Raceway so come out and support myself and the rest of the White Lightning Motorsports race team at Knoxville Raceway.
