Mark Dobmeier - Season off to a Great Start!

It has been a long winter for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports, getting the cars ready, putting up with the weather, doing their homework, and getting ready for the 2010 season. The first race of the year was a couple weeks ago at the River Cities Speedway season opener, in which Dobmeier came right out of the box to dominate the event winning both the heat race and the main event.

Following the season opener, it was all about Knoxville in which his first run on the famed ½ mile in Marion County, he qualified just behind Brian Brown in the second spot to start fifth in the heat race. Moving up to second early in the race, he finished right behind the 56 car of Davey Heskin.

Starting on the inside of the third row and quickly falling back to ninth in the main event, Dobmeier put his elbows up and charge the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13 up to second, only to get bitten by bad luck with a flattening LR tire. Dobmeier capped off the Knoxville opener at fifteenth; disappointed in the result, but excited to be fast.

After the disappointment of a flat tire at Knoxville, Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports traveled to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD for their season opener.

The track wasn’t quite what it needed to be, it was rough, and there was only one line on the bottom.

“You really just had to wait for someone to make a mistake,” explains the Huset’s veteran. “It was disappointing the track was in the shape that it was, but since we traveled all of that distance we decided to race even though some of the other competitors packed it up. We have some very loyal race fans that come out each and every week, so we didn’t want to disappoint them. We know tracks can have bad days, so we’ll be ready for the next race there and I am sure the track will be ready to rock!”

This past weekend following a River Cities cancellation, the team traveled to Knoxville Raceway once again to continue their trek to the front of the championship standings. Dobmeier put the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13 on the track for qualifying and set a time of 14.845, seventh out of the 39 cars that entered the Knoxville Raceway vs. IRA Challenge.

“We started fifth in the heat to start out the night,” says Dobmeier, “The car was fast and we made it up to third before the checkered flew.”

That lined up the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13 on the outside of the second row for the start of the main event and Dobmeier quickly moved forward with battles between Lynton Jeffery and Brian Brown. Mark was sitting second and nearly able to take over the top spot of the 21 of Brian Brown, but with three laps to go a caution flag flew and Dobmeier just wasn’t able to take Brown after the restart, finishing the second night out at Knoxville in the number 2 spot.

“I really enjoy racing against him (Brian Brown),” explains Dobmeier. “I messed up earlier in the race allowing him to go by and you just can’t do that. But, we are very happy with how the night went. We have been working on our qualifying efforts a lot this past year, and we are finally there. I am confident to say we are going to have a great year here at Knoxville!”
