Welcome all to the penultimate sprint car race of the Knoxville Raceway 2010 season. It is a beautiful day in Iowa, with abundant sunshine. This is Stacy Ervin, reporting alongside Bob Wilson from the pressbox. In fact, I will be doing all the reporting on here tonight because Bob "lost" his trusty laptop last night. (I think it's just his way of "retiring" a few weeks early...ha ha!)

Bad wreck at the start of this one as Brahmer got sideways in turns one and two from the outside front row. Brian Brown was hit nose to nose. Phillips, Dobmeier, Johnson, Weuve, Moughan also involved. the side panel of Brahmer's wing came off as they raced into turn one and that turned him sideways. Then he and Brown hit nose to nose and both flipped. Complete restart Zomer leads with Wolfgang and droud fighting for second. Madsen now around Droud for third. Zomer with a big lead but already to traffic with 14 to go. Herrera now fourth around Droud. Madsen's car smoking. Herrera by Madsen who is having a hard time holding onto that smoking machine. Herrera slide job on Wolfgang for second. Red as Jeffrey had spun sideways near the back gate and was sitting in the middle of the track. Moore and Johnson came into it, with Johnson flipping over. Jeffrey had a flat left rear. Restart Zomer still leads. Madsen's smoking car is falling back and now off the pace. Zomer wins, Herrera, Wolfgang, schneiderman, McCarl.

It's going to be a bit of a mess trying to get the times in this group time situation because our timing monitors have crashed. And Bob, without a computer. So bear with us here. We may have to actually enter these times in later on in the night. The group times have been completed, but we'll have to move on to the 410 time trials now and enter these when we can. Sorry!

We may have limited comments tonight since Stacy is the only one with a computer and we will have trouble getting finishes since we don't have a monitor to tell us as it happens and will have to wait for the scorers. Jeez...technology is great but only when it works! Top five in each 360 heat will transfer to tonight's A-main. Start is called back as Moro came from the back and started too early. Moro had trouble in his hot lap/time trial and didn't get a time. Yellow at lap four for DMJ who slows to a stop in turn four. Wing cylinder that adjusts the forward and back on the wing was broken.

5 transfer. Montgomery and R. Hall are not starting. Yellow at the start as Roberts' car on the pole did not take off and that stacked the whole inside row at the back. Fortunately, no one rode over him. We'll try again. second shot Roberts started too soon so he'll be going back two rows for the third attempt. Third attempt lineup was not correct as Anderson was not on the front row. Fourth attempt coming up. Yellow with three to go as Anderson was leading he got off the throttle, an apparent problem with the car, and was hit in the back by Shilling. Anderson's car came out of gear it is being reported.

Dobesh did not take off on the start from outside the front row so start comes back. Second attempt. Dobesh's car takes off slightly better but there's a big bad wreck at the start Ryan Roberts, Dave Hall, Tony Shilling, Chad Humston and Danny Heskin all involved. Humston and Roberts both flipped badly. Shilling also flipped. All drivers seem to be OK. From the reply it looked like Higday and Humston made contact which sent Humston flipping. Roberts then came into him. It also seemed there was contact or near contact with Heskin and Hall which may have contributed to Shilling flipping. Restart here we go. Johnson leads. Another big bad wreck this time in turn four. Dobesh's car jumped the cushion and he was flipping. Then Joe Beaver got into him and flipped hard and then Moro into them and flipped hard. Also involved, Higday, Ball and Van Haaften. From the replay, Dobesh actually hit the back of Agan to start that one. Van Haaften spun but did not appear to contact. Same with Higday I believe. Schneiderman also snuck through but did not appear to make contact. Ball was behind it and spun to avoid, did not appear to make contact. Selvage is coming to the work area on the wrecker with a flat tire, not sure how that happened. Well Higday's car apparently has a lot of front end damage so he must have made contact somehow. 13 cars left to take the restart. Johnson out to the lead with Agan, Garner following. Race for the lead as Agan looks inside of Johnson. Agan to the lead with nine to go. Garner now closing on Johnson for second with four to go. Red flag as Johnson's car never turned at turn three and his car went straight into the fence and flipped very hard. He is reported to be OK. Wow, there are a lot of really busted race cars tonight. Not good. Restart Garner chases Agan. Agan wins.

Bob's Nightly Recap

Zomer and Agan survive a night of wrecks to win Knoxville features
By Bob Wilson

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 28)Dusty Zomer (410s) and Jon Agan (360s) managed to avoid disastrous multi-car crashes as each claimed feature event wins at Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

For Zomer, starting on the pole of the 20-lap feature was more than a blessing as an opening lap 7-car wreck shook the tall fences in turn one. Eliminated from the race were the cars of points leader Brian Brown, Rager Phillips, Seth Brahmer and Joey Moughan. Three cars were able to restart.

Once the race resumed, Zomer took charge and pulled away from the field. Behind him, young Robby Wolfgang held down the runner-up spot with Don Droud Jr. giving way the third position to Ian Madsen. By lap five Zomer had raced away to a huge lead over the pack. At the half-way point, Zomer had padded his margin even further as he raced through lap traffic. Behind him Wolfgang was in a classic battle with Madsen while Johnny Herrera had moved to fourth.

By lap 15, Herrera had made a pass of Wolfgang after the latter had become trapped behind a car in traffic. All of the complexion of the race was about to change as Zomer, with an unfathomable half-lap lead, saw the red flag showing for a 3-car skirmish at the back pit gate. This wreck involved Mike Moore who had stuck the fence while trying to avoid a slowing Lynton Jeffrey. Coming out of turn two, Austin Johnson could not steer clear and ended up slamming to wall too. Only Jeffrey restarted.

Madsen, whose sprinter had been smoking badly as he maintained fourth place, tried to make a go of it on the restart but came pitside before completing one lap.

In the five remaining circuits, Zomer, in his Ingle J&J, again took control and flashed across the stripe for his fourth career win here. Trailing were Herrera, Wolfgang (for a career best), Schneiderman and Austin McCarl (from 12th).

The 360 sprint feature was not one lap old before six cars had been eliminated. On the first try to start the race, Ryan Roberts, Tony Shilling, Dave Hall and Chad Humston rode the wrecker's hook to the pits. The second try at a green saw Matt Moro and Joe Beaver become involved in a three-car wreck when Bryan Dobesh struck the turn 3-4 wall and bounce into the oncoming traffic.

The third attempt to start saw pole sitter RJ Johnson assume the point with Jon Agan in tow. For nearly a dozen laps that two-some battled for the top spot with Agan taking it in a near-blanket finish as they raced past the flag stand on lap six. Johnson stayed close but it was Agan who was now leading the way.

Disaster struck on lap 12 when Johnson's sprinter did not turn while negotiating turn three and he slammed into the fence and took a series of tumbles. With four laps remaining, only twelve cars were left running.

Agan, in his self-owned sprinter, claimed his third career win at the end of the fifteen lapper. Season's points leader Clint Garner finishing second, Jesse Giannatto was third, Rager Phillips took fourth and Dustin Selvage claimed fifth.
